The Music industry is very wide and it’s that particular sector of the entertainment industry that unites a lot of people from different parts of world together. While many new singers and artistes hate to be referred to as ''upcoming artistes", they fail to realize that they are still growing and they need all the help and support they can get to come into limelight.
As a new artiste, there are essential tips that you must know so as to move your career to the next level and avoid making costly mistakes that might affect your career as you progress. Here are a few tips you should take note of ;
1. Know Yourself
As an upcoming
artiste going into the music industry, you should have a solid content you
would want to deliver to your audience because being an upcoming artiste
doesn’t mean you can just go the studio and record anything you wish and dish
out to your audience. It has to be something you've rigorously worked on
and can be received warmly even though your audience might not enjoy your songs
at the early stage of your career. Before going into the music industry, you
must be passionate about it and even if you have the talent you will need to
work on it so you can be better. Read more on how to discover your talent.
2. Be Unique
You cease becoming a "person"
to your audience the moment you start recording songs in the studio and
releasing them to your fans. Your fans now see you as a "brand" and
that is why you need to make yourself unique so that you can stay relevant in
the industry and broaden your fan base. You shouldn't imitate the style of a
popular musician and start singing the same way because you wouldn't sound
different from the person and your audience will definitely lose interest in
your music.
3. Collaboration.
As an upcoming artiste, you
would have probably jumped on some songs with some artiste in the past but is necessary
that you work with established artistes in the industry so as to increase your
fan base and expose your music to a new set of people. This will also help you
to be more creative and also develop you more as an artiste but you
should be try as much as possible to avoid collaborations that can
affect your brand.

4. Promotions.
At the early stage of your career, you
will have to promote your songs yourself by spending some money or by familiarizing
with owners of music blogs and music download websites; whichever case it is,
it is important you promote your songs so as to reach a wider audience, expose
yourself to a larger audience and get more fans.
You can also promote your
websites on social media channels like instagram, Facebook e.t.c . Getting
these promotions might be tasking and expensive but they are worth it. You should learn how to promote your music as a new artiste.
5. Create a good social media platform.
This is very essential considering the
fact that we are in the media age now. A good page on Facebook ,twitter
or instagram can increase your fan base very well and make you more popular.
You could always share your new songs and recent activities with your fans
to keep them updated.
6. Build healthy relationships
I always emphasize on this aspect because it is very important in the sense that you need a lot of advice and help from people in the industry such as renowned bloggers, media personalities and other artistes in the industry before you. It should be noted that it is not every door you could possibly pay for so you will need some influence from top notch socialists in the society.
7. Humility.
You should be ready to serve people
in a professional way at the early stage of your career. You are just coming up
in the music industry and you are already dictating how much you should
get paid to perform at a show or selecting the kind of shows you are going to perform
at; when you should be grabbing any opportunity you see to promote yourself
since you don’t have a strong fan base yet. Be polite and always listen to
advice and corrections from more experienced people so you can be the best you
can be.
Finally, you should be familiar with the modus
operandi (mode of operation) in the music industry which includes contract
reviews and signage, copyright privacy rights and protection and many others.
You need to be familiar with all these so you can always know your right and
avoid unnecessary intimidation. You should also be careful when signing
contracts because most record label owners know how desperate young talented artistes
want to get signed and they use the opportunity to rip them off while using
their talents to make money.
You should always go with a certified attorney
to validate the authenticity of the contract and ensure that both parties
fulfill their own part of the contract. If you've actually read to this point
then that means you are ready to succeed and believe me there are going to be positive
changes in your career. I wish you success and i hope to see you at the top.
