The real fact is that there is no easy way to breakthrough in comedy just like in any other creative endeavor. It requires practice, perseverance, determination and focus to excel tremendously. You need to work hard and stick dearly to what you love doing-making people laugh and happy. Here are a few tips that can make you stand out as a comedian.
1.
Be on track.
You
should always know what you want to do in life. It should also be noted that not
everyone that makes people laugh has the potential of been a stand up comedian
though it’s unarguably a great way to start. If you always find yourself making
people laugh especially those that don’t know you that means you are getting
closer to your dream and obviously taking the step in the right direction.

Practice.
You need to always practice constantly so as to be able to develop yourself and
impress your audience very well it’s not always easy to think of something funny
to say to your audience quickly as it requires constant rehearsal most
especially when you are new to the act. Try to be consistent as this would also
enable you to get better.
3.
Don't be discouraged.
Most times, you will get on the stage and tell jokes to a crowd that wouldn't laugh at all, this could be disheartening and demoralizing. It might be that the
comic's rhythm is isn't good enough or the crowd isn't feeling the show probably
because they are distracted. This shouldn't discourage you but instead make you
more determined and also learn a few things like helping you jettison materials
that aren't working and most importantly learning how to manage your
shows.
You
should also know that "bombing" as its widely called can happen to a comedian or
stage performer anytime so one should be prepared to overcome situations like
that and never allow them to weigh you down.

Tolerance.
There are so many challenges that you need to overcome while building your
career as a comedian just like the one i explained above. Another one is what we
call "booing or heckling". You might find yourself telling a joke on the stage
and some persons' from the audience might start saying discouraging or abusive
words to you, you don’t need to listen to them as its one of the criticism you
are bound to face in your career. All you have to do is tell them to shut them
up politely so that those that are interested can concentrate. There is
absolutely no need to start exchanging words with them as this can affect your
relationship with your fans.

Media Publicity.
Since the social media is a great platform to reach a wider range of audience,
it is advisable to use this medium to boost yourself. You could get a camera and
organize few of your friends to shoot a comedy skit and upload on various social
media platforms. You should always ensure that the videos are short, concise and
brief while making sure that the message is passed.
6.
Be professional.
It
is important you find your own style of comedy and develop it. Instead of
imitating of others, you should just learn from them and use the knowledge to
enhance your skill. You should do something that’s going to make you stand out
among so many comedians and increase your fan base. Also endeavor you have a
professional stage name that makes you unique and different from others. Thanks for reading. Please leave a comment and subscribe to my blog via email.
