Make a successful movie audition.

Going for an audition for the first time, could be very challenging in terms of been confident and understanding the principles behind making a good audition. You need not worry because i have a few tips that could help you win that role you desire. You should also endeavor to build a good resume and take standard headshots.

1. Be punctual.
Prior to the audition day, you've always known you were going to go for the casting. So why delay or go late on the day of the audition? Most directors frown at lateness and if you happen to meet a director that doesn't tolerate that, you've automatically lost the chances of winning that role.
You should endeavor to get to the venue at least 30 minutes before commencement as this gives you the conducive environment to be relaxed, get comfortable with your fellow actors and also having the opportunity of getting an important information on time. You also get to be a little familiar with the casting directors by getting into some conversations with them which could ease your tension when it gets to your turn. Sincerely, been punctual to movie auditions has won me quite a number of roles.

2. Confidence.
Stepping into the audition room, you need to believe in yourself and try not to look timid or scared as this doesn't earn you extra points. Walk into that room in an upright posture while walking smartly without shuffling your feet. This creates the impression that you are capable and confident in yourself and this is basically what the casting directors are looking for. Also try not to let your bad experiences during the day get in way with your performance as this wont be helpful at all. Check my previous post on how to produce a movie without a good financial budget.

3. Build that connection.
You need to have been conversant with your script before the audition day because it demoralizes you and also bore the directors when you start muttering words.  Try as much as possible to maintain that eye contact and connection with the directors so that the scene looks natural, real and believable. You should also note that not all auditions provide the script before that day so you should always be prepared.

4. Don't over act.
As an actor, you need to be dynamic and try to surprise your directors by not giving them what they are expecting from you. If there is a scene where you have to be angry, you don't necessarily need to shout or yell at the directors or even go as far as touching them or pulling them hard to show your emotions as this could distract and disorganize them thereby leading to poor evaluation of our performance. You could talk slowly and quietly to display your anger as this would surprise the directors and showcase your creativity.

5. Make new friends and socialize.
Endeavor to meet new people especially your fellow actors at the audition and always keep in touch with them. You don't always call them  when you need something, building a lasting relationship would help because there are some auditions you wont be aware of and you will need someone to always inform you.

6.Be professional.
After auditioning for the role, you might get your verdict on the spot or you might be told that you would be contacted later. If after your audition and the director doesn't deem you fit to play the role, you don't have to start crying or look gloomy because it doesn't mean you are not talented or  you are ugly. Its just that you didn't fit into the qualities required to play the role.

All you need to do is smile and thank them while you leave to search for another audition in your local area. If you stay in the United states i would suggest you check around Los Angeles in California or Newyork as most big movies are produced there. For Nigerians you would consider Lagos or Asaba in delta state while Indians should also check New Delhi or Mumbai. These are the ones am quite familiar with, you should try searching for auditions near you online.
